Does this feel familiar?

You've worked in the charity sector for five years or more. You're properly good at what you do. And you've been thinking about freelancing for longer than you'd like to admit.

Maybe you're stalking freelancers' LinkedIn profiles at 11pm. Maybe you've worked out your day rate in a meeting while someone else was talking. Maybe you've had a good week and decided to stay. Again.

What you'll hear:

  1. How to tell if it's time. That itch you can't shake, and what it's actually telling you.

  2. What freelancing really looks like. The honest version, six years in. Cold coffee and unpaid invoices included.

  3. Turn the 3am sums into a plan. Money, pensions, and "who would hire me?"

  4. The five-question leap test. Score yourself on the five things to work out before you hand in your notice.

  5. Six weeks to a clear answer. Yes, no or not yet, and how I can help you get there.

Meet your host:
Bethany Helliwell-Smith

Business coach. Former fundraiser who somehow ended up leading a CRM migration, licking 250 envelopes, fixing the printer and taking major donors to the opera. Standard Tuesday in 2019.

16 years in the charity sector. 6 years freelance. Which, for someone who used to update her CV every 18 months "just to see", is a bit of a shock.

I'm Bethany Helliwell-Smith. I've worked in the charity sector since 2010. After my third redundancy before I was 30, I went freelance. Now I coach charity freelancers to build businesses that work around their lives. I've got two small children, a husband who starts work at 6.30am, and I haven't worked a Monday morning in years.

I coach like the big sister I am. Bringing Big Sister Energy to charity freelancers. I've done it first, I've made the mistakes already, and I'll tell you the truth whether you asked for it or not.
